Community
Our commitment to our community is central to our business philosophy. If we can proactively find ways to improve the lives of those around us then everyone benefits. Our commitment falls into three primary categories: Young People, Education and Faith. Our Young People - We support the young people in our community by being actively involved with our time and finances with excellent organizations as the Boy Scouts of America and The
Boys and Girls Club. It is their dedication to the development of good character in our young people that continues to exemplify the value of their organizations. And because of this dedication we believe they represent some of our most valuable investments. But we don't want to stop there.
Our Education - Beginning this fall, we will begin a program to offer small grants to public school teachers in the North Little Rock school district to help bring outstanding education ideas into reality. We are doing this to 1.) support our teachers and 2.) to invest in the education of our children. Education is a cornerstone for a healthy and productive community.
In addition to the grants, this fall we will begin hosting continuing education courses for our employees. We're researching their needs right now, but our plans are to eventually offer courses ranging from ESL to home accounting to parenting. We're surveying our employees to find out what their needs are and once we identify those needs, we will work to fill them. We believe this can improve the lives of our employees and improve the level of person we place with our clients.
Our Faith - Our faith in God is central to who we are and how we do business. Because of which, we play an active role in supporting some specific ministries; Camp Mitchell, an Episcopal camp on Petit Jean Mountain and two Wesley Foundation College Campus Ministries. Through the work of these ministries, thousands of lives have been transformed and we are honored to have a role in helping these ministries move forward.
Essentially, we are dedicated to making life better for not only our clients and not only our employees, but for everyone in our community. It's just what we do. We don't have to, but we believe it makes for a better world and that's exactly what we want to help create.
The Hughes Agency Partners with the Arkansas Rice Depot: Ethical leadership...it's a term we don't take lightly. We work in a fast paced world where the bottom line is too often the only focus for some companies. Unfortunately, when that happens people become commodities rather than human beings. When companies lose touch with their employees and their community they lose touch with how much impact they really have on the lives of others. Each week our leadership team comes together to review the way we are doing business and to look for opportunities to improve the lives of our employees and get involved with our community.
Recently we began looking at the number of employees that work odd jobs around our office while they are recovering from injuries and are placed on light duty work. We came to the conclusion that they provided an opportunity for community involvement. We contacted the Arkansas Rice Depot to see if they had any need for workers on a light duty release.
They did.
So now an arrangement has been made to send our limited work release employees to report to the Arkansas Rice Depot instead of our office. It's a win win situation. The Rice Depot gets the help that they need, our employees are able to continue working and we feel good that we have the opportunity to make a difference and improve the lives of those around us.
